Introducing Legato for Trombone -Reginald H. Fink.

A first book for the development of legato control for advanced elementary and intermediate trombone players. After introducing legato tonguing, the book provides a few exercises to synchronize and coordinate the legato tonguing with the proper movement of the slide. The major emphasis of the book is on playing legato and making music within a very limited range. Pieces include Shenandoah, All Through the Night, Aura Lee, Scarborough Fair, Go Down Moses, Simple Gifts, Greensleeves, Amazing Grace, and many more. Several pieces are presented in more than one key so that the student learns to play in more than a couple of keys while enjoying the tone and lyric flow of the song. All of the songs, and later the vocalises are presented with chord symbols. Using these chord symbols someone with very modest keyboard skills can improvise an accompaniment, or the chord symbols may be loaded into a synthesizer program such as Band-in-a-Box. The last few pages of the book provide pieces and elementary vocalises in preparation for the transition into Fink's Studies in Legato or Rochut's Melodious Etudes. Many "helpful hints" are provided with the material. A teacher who is not a trombonist can use this book successfully.
